Significant rainfall is expected across Windsor and Essex County today through Saturday, according to Environment Canada.

They say total rainfall amounts of 30mm to 50mm are expected by Saturday morning.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority, which has issued a flood watch, says rainfall rates could reach up to 10-15mm per hour in the heavier downpours.

The cause is a low pressure system tracking just south of Lake Erie that will bring a prolonged period of showers to the area. A few embedded thunderstorms may give way to locally higher amounts.
