Expansion of Vaccination To Healthcare Workers
Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health says the Health Unit will soon expand vaccination availability to the “very high priority group” which includes many types of local healthcare workers.
He estimates that after recent vaccinations of hospital staff, there are 5,000 to 6,000 remaining local healthcare workers from areas including:
- patient care care areas in acute care and other hospital settings
- congregate settings including assisted living
- correctional settings
- residential facilities
- hospices
- palliative care settings
- shelters
- supportive housing outside of highest priority level
- community care with high risk of exposure in serving specialized populations such as community health centres, home and community care, adult day programs for seniors
- other healthcare services for Indigenous populations
- community care with high risk of exposure in serving the general population, such as community based specialists, death investigation professionals, dentistry, gynecology, obstetrics, midwifery, nurse practitioner-led clinics, contract nursing agencies, ENT specialists, pharmacies, primary care, respirologists, respiratory therapy, walk in clinics and laboratory services
He says the Health Unit will be making a registration form available to these organizations to gather information about workers who qualify for the vaccine.
