The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has dismissed 46 students from St. Gabriel Catholic Elementary School after receiving notification of a confirmed case of COVID-19 at the school.
One cohort includes a class of 29 students. An additional 17 students were dismissed from a bus cohort.
The board dismissed the affected students early Tuesday afternoon. A nurse from the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit was on site at the school to assist with the dismissal process and provide support.
The school has been working with the health unit by providing lists of students and staff who may have been directly affected. The health unit is contacting any individuals, both students and staff, who may have been affected, and will give directions for them to follow.
A voice message to the school community was sent home this afternoon to reassure parents that if they have not been contacted by the health unit, they have not been identified as close contacts and their children may continue attending school as usual. Follow-up letters will be sent home with students when they are dismissed from school this afternoon.
