Loblaw Companies Limited says that they will continue to operate all nine stores affected by a strike of over 1,600 employees.
Those stores are the Real Canadian Superstore in Chatham, Leamington, on walker Road and Dougall Avenue in Windsor and in Sarnia. Zehrs stores include LaSalle, Tecumseh Road East in Windsor, Kingsville and Tecumseh.
“In light of the union’s decision to reject our offer and to strike, we have turned our attention to serving local customers and supporting our colleagues who will continue to serve them in all nine stores,” said Kevin Groh, Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Loblaw Companies Limited.
They say that stores will remain open with some modification to store hours and reduction of some in-store services. Stores will be open from 10am to 8pm daily.
The Ministry of Labour Conciliation Officer has asked all parties involved in this set of negotiations to return to the bargaining table, and bargaining is set to resume on July 2nd, however, UFCW Locals 175 & 633 says that their members will proceed with their strike action in the meantime.
“We are asking the people in these communities to not shop at the affected stores,” explained Shawn Haggerty, President of UFCW Local 175. “These workers are counting on their friends and neighbours for support. Please do not cross their picket lines.”
