Loft-style, residential apartment units are planned for the office tower connected to Market Square on Ottawa Street in Olde Walkerville.
Developer Pierre Poirier of Poirier Electric says the development is a natural fit given the history and construction of the building. The units — 34 in total — will be designed as modern, open-concept, and loft-style with poured concrete floors and concrete walls, making each unit soundproof.
“The units have high ceilings and large windows, creating an open feeling,” said Poirier. “The flooring will be a combination of finished concrete, carpeting and ceramic tile.”
Poirier says each unit will have its own central air and heating system, along with refrigerators, stoves, microwaves, dishwashers, washing machines and dryers.
“The development will offer a lot of amenities,” said Poirier. “‘The Market Square’ is a multi-use building which currently houses a Farmer’s Market, Drugstore, Physicians Offices, Restaurant, Credit Union, Yoga Studio & Gym, Professional Office Tenants, a Bingo Gaming Centre, and many more.”
He said the project will have a two-year timeline from start to finish.
