Essex Town Council has endorsed mandatory recycling in municipal facilities and at special events held on Town property.
The town states that the decision was made in response to the Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority’s request for support of effective recycling programs that maximize opportunities to ensure recyclable items don’t end up at the landfill.
Prior to Monday night, the Town says that it was already working to create better waste sorting areas in town facilities. A supply of recycling containers will be delivered in the last week of February and distributed to key waste sorting areas.
“As Council for the Town of Essex, we want to make sure that we’re leaders in recycling,” says Mayor Ron McDermott. “With Monday night’s resolution we’re renewing our commitment to environmental sustainability and ensuring that residents and visitors to our town can do their part by sorting their waste into appropriate containers.”
