Music will soon fill the playground at Prince Edward School with the help of a donation from Essex Community Foundation to create an interactive music garden.

On Monday, January 27th, Prince Edward students were presented with a $475 cheque from Glenn Stresman, the Executive Director of Windsor Essex Community Foundation. Prince Edward was one of eleven schools selected as a recipient of grant money from the Kid Start Mini-Grants program fund which supports JK to Grade 3 school projects within Windsor and Essex County.

The planned musical garden will include a variety of colourful painted objects and musical instruments that will be hung or displayed in a designated area of the playground. Students can experiment by using these objects to make music or listen to the music being created by other students.

The garden was the brain child of Mrs. Taylor’s Early Years students. “Our students love music and have experimented with making music using a variety of objects and instruments within the classroom. It is a natural progression to take their love for music and learning outside,” says Jaime Taylor, Early Years Teacher at Prince Edward Public School.

Taylor created a proposal with the help of her students and sent it to the Windsor Essex Community Foundation.

“I can’t wait to hear the wonderful sounds that will be coming from our playground,” says Taylor. “Hopefully our students will gain an even greater love of music.”
