Stay connected to the past, the present and future of University life

Benefits of UWindsor Alumni Association membership

By Patti Lauzon

September on the UWindsor campus brings back memories of new friends and fresh starts.

Bring your mind back to your first week as a student at the University of Windsor. Did you have butterflies in your stomach? Do you see the faces of your soon-to-be new friends? Do you smell the aroma of freshly cut grass that blew by you as you ran across campus to your first class? Thinking about your first week on campus can bring back all the feels.

Patti Lauzon, Director of the Alumni and Donor Communications at the University of Windsor, said, “No matter what your program or faculty or if you stayed in Windsor-Essex or went abroad – once you are a University of Windsor Lancer, you are always a Lancer.”

She said that there are many ways to maintain and strengthen your UWindsor bond, including involvement with the UWindsor Alumni Association. “It is always interesting to reconnect with past classmates and to see where life has taken them and to share your personal and professional accomplishments. It is fun to chat about UWindsor memories that can bring us back to our time on campus and recall the joys and challenges of completing a university degree.”

The Alumni Association, a non-profit organization, was formed in 1903 by our founding institution, Assumption College which traces its roots back to 1857. The mandate, now as then, is to provide an opportunity for its members to foster, by their own participation, those programs and undertakings which will contribute to their personal growth and overall development and to the development, prestige and advancement of the University of Windsor. Equally important is the fostering of social, cultural and business relationships among alumni and friends.

With 150,000 members strong, The Alumni Association provides dozens of opportunities to connect to the Lancer Blue and Gold including:

The global network of UWindsor Alumni also provides an incredible sense of belonging and family within the Association.

In addition to hosting in-person alumni events, the Alumni Association also provides free access to the online platform, Ten Thousand Coffees, allowing you to identify as a UWindsor alum and connect with other graduates. Through this program, users are encouraged to meet other alumni and grow their professional network.

The bottom line, Lauzon says is “Staying connected with your university just feels good. There is no pressure to study or attend class, but you get the same great feeling of being a part of the large, proud UWindsor family.”

Your first step to reconnecting? Go online and update your email and home address. Send the alumni office an update on your professional and personal highlights such as a new job, a volunteer accomplishment, an award or promotion.

Alumni Week also kicks off later this month from September 26 – October 2, 2022. To learn more visit the website for a full schedule of events.
