The new Hiram Walker Commemorative Statue was unveiled Saturday morning in a new parkette on Riverside Drive at Devonshire Road.
Standing approximately 11 feet tall, the statue was commissioned in 2016, in honour of Hiram Walker’s 200th birthday. The Hiram portion of the statue was created by sculptor Mark Williams, with whisky barrels created by sculptor Laura Williams. The piece was cast in bronze by John Vickers at Hopper Foundry.
The statue depicts Mr. Walker walking from the Distillery to the town of Walkerville with plans under his arms.
The park’s orientation addresses the intersection of Devonshire and Riverside but is also traversable with a sidewalk that mimics that path that statue is moving.
The day also featured a 206th Birthday Celebration on the streets of Walkerville and the unveiling of the new and permanent Coach House exhibition.
