It is the end of an era in the Windsor food scene.

Owner of Thanasi’s Olympus Greek Restaurant Nick Pontikis has announced after 41 years, he is set to retire, and the restaurant has been sold.

“It’s not often that someone is able to retire at the top of their game – Thanasi’s is a victim of our own success. We have never been busier, and that’s the problem,” read a Facebook post by Pontikis. “The reason our food has been so consistently great is because the same people in the kitchen have been lovingly preparing it for decades. These wonderful people are now ready for retirement and have been waiting to join me in doing so.”

Pontikis said that he had planned to retire after 40 years but did not want Covid-19 to be seen as the reason.

The Tecumseh Road East will convert to Indian cuisine at the end of May.
