As March break rolls into town, a local movie theatre’s limited release isn’t far behind.

Starting on Friday March 11, Lakeshore Cinemas (located at 164 Commercial Boulevard in Tecumseh) will host a one week screening of psychological-thriller Woman In Car. Directed by Vanya Rose, the Canadian independent film is part of a limited theatrical run. Receiving a digital release on March 22, the movie is only being shown at two other venues in Ontario before then.

Woman In Car centres around retired archer Anne (Murdoch Mysteries’ Hélene Joy.) Living as the trophy wife of a successful businessman, things change when her stepson returns to Montreal with his new friend Safiye (Liane Balan.) Fearing her life of privilege could be threatened, Anne soon becomes obsessed with the stranger as things start to unravel.

Exploring how past mistakes influence the future, it focuses on class, family and deception as well.

Premiering at the 2021 Cinequest Film & Creativity Festival, the movie also debuted in Canada at the Canadian Film Festival last year. Earning attention with a 2022 Canadian Screen Awards nomination and positive reviews, Woman In Car also stars Gabrielle Lazure, Aidan Ritchie and Anthony Lemke. Raising a portion of funding through Indiegogo, Canadian independent film veteran Avi Federgreen (whose credits include One Week and Score: A Hockey Musical)also came on board as executive-producer.

Showtimes are available and tickets can be purchased online or in person. While allowed to operate at full capacity, Lakeshore Cinemas is still enforcing a one seat buffer between guests not booked together. Masks are also required and the theatre’s’ policy can be found here.

More information about Woman In Car is available at the film’s official facebook and twitter pages.
