Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Wednesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 98 new high risk cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Wednesday. Testing is still limited to high risk individuals only the province estimates actual COVID-19 cases are around 10 times higher than what is being reported.
Total Cases & Active Cases
Total overall cases increased from 38,634 on Tuesday, March 15th to 38,728 on Wednesday, March 16th.
There are 311 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 100 active cases since yesterday).
Vaccinations
Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).
- 355,961 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+80 since yesterday)
- 342,669 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+226 since yesterday)
- 190,874 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+263 since yesterday)
Vaccination Percentages
- 86.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
- 83.0 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
- 53.9 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 18+) have received a 3rd dose/booster (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)

Deaths
The Health Unit announced one additional death from COVID-19 bringing the local death toll to 588. They say a man in his 60s from the community passed away.

The Health Unit lists 30 hospitalizations today (increase of 3), and 2 of those hospitalizations are in the ICU.
