The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 87 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Saturday, bringing the local total to 10,752.

Today’s New Cases

Cases increased from 10,665 on Friday January 15th to 10,752 on Saturday January 16th and 2,569 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 24 cases are outbreak-related, 2 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 1 case is community acquired, and 60 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.

Recoveries

The Health Unit lists 7,928 total recoveries.

That’s an increase of 232 recoveries today.

Deaths

There have been 7 new deaths from COVID-19 today bringing the local death toll to 255.

The Health Unit says:

• Three are from long-term care and retirement homes
  • A man in his 70s
  • A man in his 80s
  • A woman in her 90s
• Four are from the community
  • A man in his 70s
  • A man in his 80s
  • Two men in their 90s

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 120 hospitalizations today: 102 people in acute care, and 18 people in the ICU (1 less today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
