66 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex As Of Monday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has announced 66 new cases of COVID-19 as of Monday, bringing the local total to 4,054.
Cases increased from 3,988 on Sunday December 6th to 4,054 on Monday December 7th and 501 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.
The Health Unit says 10 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 1 case is a local healthcare worker, and the origins of 55 cases are still being investigated.
They say 3,470 people locally have recovered (an increase of 24 recoveries today).
There have been no additional deaths due to COVID-19 as of Monday and the local death toll stands at 83.
As of Monday, the Health Unit lists 34 hospitalizations: 26 people in acute care (an increase of 5 today), and 8 people in the ICU (an increase of 1 today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex. Nineteen hospitalizations are listed at Windsor Regional Hospital.

As of Monday, six long-term care/retirement homes remain under outbreak:
- Devonshire Retirement Residence (Windsor) has 0 resident cases and 1 staff case
- Chartwell St. Clair Beach (Tecumseh) has 4 resident cases and 0 staff cases (an increase of 4 resident cases today)
- Village of Aspen Lake (Windsor) has 0 resident cases and 2 staff cases (an increase of 1 staff case today)
- Chartwell Royal Oak Residence (Kingsville) has 0 resident cases and 2 staff cases
- Leamington Mennonite (Leamington) has 0 resident cases and 2 staff cases
- Riverside Place (Windsor) has 17 resident cases and 3 staff cases

Workplace Safety Campaign Results
The Health Unit has released preliminary results of a workplace safety campaign conducted over the weekend by the Health Unit and other agencies including the Ministry of Labour.
Health Unit CEO Theresa Marentette says seventeen compliance officers visited 240 workplaces and nearly 80 per cent were in compliance with public health measures.
Marentette says the campaign targeted retail including big box stores in the Windsor and Leamington area, along with restaurants.
She says tickets, warnings and referrals were given to some businesses and the top top areas needing improvement included screening for COVID-19, physical distancing, and having safety plans in place.
