The Town of Kingsville lifted its partial state of emergency declaration Friday afternoon. It had been declared on Monday in response to a gasoline leak at the gas station located on the corner of County Road 20 and 23.
Following the further evacuation of the contaminants from the crawl space and surrounding the gas station building, Windsor HAZMAT conducted testing Friday afternoon and confirmed there is no longer a risk of explosion.
The County of Essex is reopening roads in the affected area, and evacuated residents have been advised that they are able to return to their homes.
“There were certainly a series of challenges to overcome through the course of the emergency response efforts at this location requiring above and beyond traditional efforts from our emergency responders and agencies,” stated Kingsville Mayor, Nelson Santos. “We want to thank the evacuated homeowners for their sacrifices and continued patience, as well as all emergency service personnel and cleanup crews who worked tirelessly to bring this incident to a safe resolution.”
