The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has confirmed the area’s first cases of COVID-19 in local long-term care facilities.
In a release to media, Wednesday afternoon, officials said there are currently two confirmed cases of COVID-19 within the staff population of Country Village Homes in Woodslee, and one confirmed case of COVID-19 within the staff population of AMICA in Windsor.
Officials say the facilities have implemented outbreak management protocols, and all residents and staff have been notified.
The Health Unit says a single laboratory confirmed case of COVID-19 in a resident or a staff member of a long term care facility is considered a Confirmed COVID-19 Outbreak for a facility under Ministry of Health guidelines.
Officials say Health Unit staff are continuing to work with long-term care facilities and retirement homes to provide guidance for infection prevention and control.
The Health Unit is expected to release further details at their daily public briefing on Thursday morning.
