The UWindsor campus will be going smoke-free this fall.
The University says that according to a report released by the Canadian Cancer Society (2018), more than 65 Canadian universities and colleges have become 100% smoke-free.
The university also says that “not only will making UWindsor a smoke-free campus protect students, faculty, staff and visitors from the harmful effects of exposure to second-hand smoke, but it may also discourage individuals from starting to smoke, as well as provide a motivation for smokers to quit.”
To plan for this significant change to the daily lives of some students, staff and faculty, the University has established a Steering Committee that will provide strategic direction and leadership to the development of the Smoke-Free Campus Policy.
The University is panning engagement of the campus community; both smokers and non-smokers and working groups will be established to provide guidance. An online survey has also been created, and the University has set up a website that they will populate with information as decision are made. You can find the website and survey here.
