The Catholic School Board has rejected the offer that Unifor Local 2458 provided to them on Tuesday, November 1st.

The board says that they have concluded that it fails to demonstrate any meaningful change to the position the union verbally shared with their negotiating team when talks concluded on October 7th.

“Billed by the union as a “comprehensive” offer, it is merely a one-page statement that fails to mention any meaningful counter-proposal to the issue at the heart of this dispute: lifetime post-retirement benefits for the union’s current members,” said Stephen Fields, Communications Coordinator for the school board.

“The fact that this offer is simply written affirmation of the union’s original position, combined with the fact that its delivery was announced to the local media, means that it amounts to little more than a public relations exercise rather than a substantive effort to move this matter towards resolution,” Fields continue.

The board says they have shared the offer with the conciliator, and that “when Unifor Local 2458 is prepared to provide us with a serious counter-proposal which addresses the most important issues involved in this dispute, we’re certain the conciliator will find reason to call both parties back to the bargaining table.”
