Transit Windsor is set to roll out new signage and technology that they say will improve service with real-time information and improved accessibility across the system

In the coming weeks, transit riders will begin to see newly designed bus stop signs across the city that contain a Stop ID number, a phone number and a number to text. When the system is fully implemented, this information will provide the rider with real-time bus information for each stop.

“This is an exciting leap forward for Transit Windsor”, said Executive Director Pat Delmore. “This technology will give transit riders access to real-time information from their smart phone or computer regarding the location of their bus and its expected time of arrival “.

In addition, buses will also provide automated stop announcements and interactive voice response systems to improve service for the visually impaired and visitors in the community.

“We expect all 112 buses and 1,200 bus stops to be completely changed over by early 2017”, said Delmore. “We will then monitor the system and get feedback from our riders on any adjustments that might improve service even further”.

The cost of these upgrades is $2.7million.
