Leamington District Memorial Hospital has added additional shifts to its 24 hour Emergency Department schedule between 4pm and 8pm when the highest wait times occur.
“In an effort to continually improve access to care, increase our performance and focus on patient services, we have added an additional shift in our Emergency Department, staffing an extra ED Physician between 4 and 8 p.m., historically our highest wait times, explains LDMH Director Clinical-Critical Care Katherine Groenewegen.”
The hospital says that the increased Physician coverage for this new shift resulted from continuous monitoring and patient feedback. Currently the hospital has the top performance for wait times across the Erie St. Clair LHIN, wait times are always a focus for increased performance. In addition to recognizing the need for this new shift, a recent staff and community survey provided feedback for areas of improvement to the emergency department registration process. A project is currently under review for process improvements.
Most recently, the waiting Lounge in ED waiting area underwent a complete structural and design overhaul including new design features including comfortable modern seating, a more spacious area, upgraded lighting and mobile devise chargers and I-Pad guest tablets providing free internet access. The new waiting lounge now also provides complimentary hot beverages from the modern single serve pod system and healthy affordable snacks.
