12-year old Julianne Pella from St. Gabriel’s Catholic Elementary School is the winner of the 2016 FINA Windsor World Swimming Championships Name Our Mascot Contest.
Thanks to Julianne’s suggestion, the sail fish mascot for the event has been named Splasher.
The naming contest was held in June of this year, and Julianne’s entry was selected as the winner from over 200 submissions. As her prize for winning, Mayor Drew Dilkens presented her with an iPad mini and four passes to the FINA 2016 World Swimming Championship Opening Ceremonies. In addition, Julianne and her class at St. Gabriel’s will receive a visit from Splasher and enjoy a complimentary lunch provided by SUBWAY during the upcoming school year.
“There were many, many fantastic entries in this contest, and everyone who participated deserves a round of applause,” said Mayor Dilkens. “After much consideration, we decided that Splasher best captured the spirit of the world-class aquatic event coming to our community.”
