The Windsor Symphony Orchestra is celebrating Christmas this weekend with Holiday Brass with special guests the Windsor Classic Chorale, the Windsor-Essex Youth Choir, and choirs from Prince Andrew Public School and Belle River Public School.
Led by WSO Chorus Master Lana Lysogor, performances take place in local churches all weekend.
The WSO Brass Quintet and piano will accompany the choruses in a concert filled with traditional holiday favourites both sacred and secular. The finale includes an invitation to the audience to sing along with some of Christmas’ most popular carols.
Beloved Christmas standards including “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “Silver Bells,” “Angels We Have Heard on High,” and “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” will be performed with timeless classical works such as Bach’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” and Mendelssohn’s “Weihnachten.”
A different children’s chorus joins the WSO Brass Quintet and Windsor Classic Chorale for each of the weekend’s three performances.
Concerts take place Friday at 7:30pm at St. John the Baptist Church in Amherstburg with the Prince Andrew Public School Choir; on Saturday at 7:30pm at Leamington United Mennonite Church with the Belle River Public School Choir; and on Sunday at 7:30pm at St. Anne’s Church in Tecumseh with the Windsor-Essex Youth Choir.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for 14 and under. Available the WSO Box Office. Tickets also available by phone at 519-973-1238 ex. 2; online at mywso.ca; and at the door.
