Ivy Handmade Industries, a locally owned and operated store that carries the wares of local artisans and designers, is celebrating one year in business on April 1st.
The store located at Tecumseh Mall has weathered through the difficulties of a start up in a tough economy and a new concept in a mall location and is inviting members of the public to help celebrate with them.
“It’s been a year of education and inspiration for the three of us and I think too for the customers who have supported us,” says Harmony Peach one of the three Windsor-based artists and designers who co-owns Ivy.
Peach says that she along with her business partners Lori Moore and Dee-Dee Shkreli have been responsible for bringing the work and designs of over 30 local artisans, designers and fine crafters to the general public in a fresh and different way.
“It’s still a very new concept for Windsor. Ivy is a locally operated, retail store with accessible hours carrying only merchandise made by local people in the unique location of a shopping mall. This is something that’s traditionally available in trendy little sections of New York or Toronto or Montreal. We’ve taken the work out of getting to really well crafted, beautifully handmade objects and made those things as available as popping over to the local community mall. Gone are the days of waiting for the next big handmade trade show or heading off the beaten path to find that little specialty shop” says Peach.
The store carries a large selection of house wares, clothing and evening wear, accessories, children’s items, stationary, body products and one of a kind objects and the store caters to those looking for the hard to find with easy options for custom orders and commissioned artwork.
To celebrate Ivy’s anniversary, the owners have decided to offer a chance at winning some of their store’s unique wares along with some light refreshments at the store located inside of the Tecumseh Mall across from the food court on Tuesday from 5pm to 9pm.
Peach says “We want to use this opportunity to thank those who have supported us through this first year and certainly we also want to invite others who have yet to experience our store to come in for a firsthand look at what the people of Windsor-Essex are capable of. There are so many talented people doing wonderful things right here in our own back yard and we are proud to be able to show that off.”
