UWindsor 50th Anniversary Weekend Plans Significantly Changed Due To Strike

The University of Windsor says that they will cancel many events planned for the anniversary celebration weekend due to the labour disruption by CUPE 1393.
CUPE 1393 on Thursday called for the University to “finish the job – let’s negotiate, so we can celebrate.”
“We owe it to students, our neighbours and the many alumni taking part in 50th Anniversary events in the coming weeks and months to sit down and negotiate a collective agreement that is both fair to all parties and protects quality, post-secondary education,” said Dean Roy, President of CUPE 1393 Thursday.
Events that the University has cancelled include:
Thursday, September 19th:
Alumni Art Exhibition, 10am Mackenzie Hall
Campus Community BBQ, noon to 1:30pm
50th Anniversary Administration Reunion, noon to 1:30pm
Friday, September 20th:
Welcome Tent with campus tours 11am – 4pm
“007 Under the Stars” 8pm – 10:45pm Film Festival, Dillon Quad
Saturday, September 21st:
Alumni Art Exhibition, 10am Mackenzie Hall
Welcome Tent with campus tours 10am – 7pm
Milestone Reunion Breakfast (8:30am – 10am) and Lunch (noon to 2 pm) for classes of 1963 and 1964, 1988 and 1989, 2003 and 2004
Future Lancers Activity Zone at the St. Denis Centre and on Main Campus from 10am – 4pm
Classic Car Show on Sunset Ave 10am – 4pm
Tours of the Ed Lumley Centre for Engineering Innovation, noon – 3pm
“Choose Your Own Adventure” Film Festival 1pm – 10pm Education Gym
SAC/UWSA and University Ambassador Reunion, 3pm, CAW Student Centre
Department of History Reunion: 1pm – 3:30pm, McPherson Alumni Reception Centre, Alumni Hall Residence
School for Arts and Creative Innovation, Alumni and Friends Reception, 6pm – 7:30pm, Mackenzie Hall
Music Alumni Showcase Concert, 7:30pm – 10pm, Mackenzie Hall
Tailgating Party with live entertainment by Jody Rafoul. 5pm – 7pm
“Never-ending White Lights” Concert for students at the St. Denis Centre, 10pm
Sunday, September 22th:
Windsor Lancer Fun Run, 8am to 10am, St. Denis Centre
Breakfast Wrap-up Event, 10am – noon, Ambassador Auditorium. Ticket holders will be contacted.
University officials say that they will look to reschedule these events at a later time in the anniversary year.
