Two people are in critical condition and damage is extensive after fire broke out at 6623 Thornberry Crescent — also known as Essex Condo #5 — a multi-unit residential building in East Windsor.
Fire crews were called just before 1am for several reports of heavy smoke coming from the building. When they arrived, firefighters found fire in a unit on the third floor.
Crews immediately rescued two people from inside the unit that was on fire and began extinguishing the flames.
A 21-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries. EMS and firefighters worked on the second victim, a 30-year-old male, on the lawn of the building and later transported the man to Met Hospital. Windsor Police Staff Sergeant Steve Bodri says both injuries are considered life-threatening.
Windsor Fire says a third person was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
There’s no word at this time on how the fire started. Windsor Police and Windsor Fire are both conducting investigations.
