Celebrating through tears. A paradox the Zellers restaurant employees embraced Saturday morning and afternoon. One last time, the Zellers family got together in their workplace for a final farewell as the restaurant was set to close.
Employees of the restaurant, as well as some store staff, invited the customers they’ve known for years for coffee and cake in the afternoon. They also offered trays of cheese, fruits and vegetables. Memories were told, tears were shed, and laughs were shared.
The staff became emotional when some of their regular customers brought some goodbye gifts and wished them the best.
When the restaurant was emptied and cleaned, followed by a few more goodbyes, the lights were turned off for the last time.
As of yesterday, December 15th, 2012, the restaurant in the Zellers in Tecumseh Mall was closed. The store itself will be closing in March 2013. Liquidation sales start on December 26th.
Zellers has been a part of the mall for over 20 years; it was previously located at the mall’s north end (presently Goodlife Fitness) and moved to its current location.
