When St. Francis elementary school closed in West Windsor a year ago, it’s future appeared uncertain for a time prior to the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board announcing plans to transform the building into a satellite of its “St. Michael’s” alternative highschool.
Back in September when St. Francis became St. Michaels, City of Windsor bylaw enforcement issued an order to comply at the school as student and staff cars were being parked in the playground and on the grass.
The school board subsequently has put forth a plan to add portable classrooms to the site and to expand the parking lot to the former paved playground and grass field areas.
Because of the City of Windsor’s Interim Control Bylaw in Sandwich Towne which requires approval to be given for construction or demolition, the issue has been referred to the Planning Standing Committee of City Council and is expected to go to City Council for approval in the near future.
As a result of approval, the west-end neighbourhood property will have expanded capacity.
