The Owen Sound Attack were in town to take on the Windsor Spitfires, and the Spits suffered a 3-2 loss. Their last minute efforts to tie the game fell short and are headed to Owen Sound for Wednesday night’s game on the road. Windsor’s two goals were on the powerplay and scored by Tom Kuhnhackl. Windsor was missing their power forward Zack Kassian due to a suspension from Saturday night’s game in Owen Sound. Tomorrow an official announcement by the OHL will be made whether this was the only game he’d miss or if there would be a longer suspension. Jack Campbell made 41 saves and was superb in net.
Owen Sound started the scoring off 6 minutes into the first period by crashing the net and running over Jack Campbell to gain the lead, however Windsor’s Kuhnhackl was able to tie things up on the powerplay. Before the period was over Kenny Ryan and Garrett Wilson dropped the gloves.
The second period was scoreless courtesy of some outstanding goaltending from Jack Campbell including a glove save nine minutes into the period.
During the third period Owen Sound’s Garrett Wilson and Roman Berdnikov added the pair of goals to give them a 3-1 lead. Windsor’s Tom Kuhnhackl again was able to score on the powerplay and Windsor was within inches of tying the game. During the last minute they had a 6-4 advantage (powerplay and Jack Campbell was pulled for the extra attacker) but came up short.
The Spitfires face off Wednesday night in Owen Sound and on Friday if necessary at home.
