The Windsor Spitfires took on the Saginaw Spirit at the WFCU Center and came away with a 5-0 shutout, clinching the West Division earning them a second place seed in the playoffs . Within the first seven minutes Windsor was unable to put a shot on goal, giving them a rocky start to the game. Saginaw goals were scored by Hermenegildo, Trocheck, McFarland Ross, and Shalla. Windsor put 41 shots on goal(compared to Saginaw’s 35), but their efforts were stopped by the strong Saginaw defense and their goalie Mavric Parks, the 20 year old undrafted veteran. He was excellent at containing the rebounds and had good positioning stopping some of Windsor’s best chances.
Adrian Robertson fought in within six minutes of the game start and was given a loud ovation given it was his first game back from a concussion that kept him out for the past few games. Tom Kuhnhackl received a five minute major penalty for head checking and a game misconduct. He is going to receive further league discipline.
Windsor has two games remaining in the regular season: one tomorrow night in Sault Ste. Marie, and another on the road Saturday night against Saginaw once again.
As it stands now Windsor is ranked 4th in the Western Conference and would be paired up with the Erie Otters for the first round of the playoffs.
