Last night was one of firsts for me – First time to The Seminole Bar & Grill (3933 Seminole St.) and first time seeing the Band Thieves in Remand.
These guys had the floor to themelves all night, with a set that ran from 9 pm til 1 am (with breaks for a drink or two, of course), and even after a long night, when they closed up their set with a Breaking Benjamin tune, these guys were still rocking. Their fatigue might’ve been starting to show a bit, but especially for this last one, they really gave it their all.
The evening was spent with a mix of covers and orignals. The covers went everywhere from an impromptu version of “Blister in the Sun”, to Lit’s “Miserable”, to “Foxy Lady”. (Although that last one could’ve used some more pelvic thrusting a-la Dana Carvey)
Their original tracks were in the style of true rock’n’roll, with heavy riffs, powerful beats a bass tone that was a wonderful mix of low and springy, and some great sounding guitar overlays. The acoustics of the room didn’t lend themselves great to the sound of Thieves in Remand, but it’s a bar with mirror-coated walls – what else can you expect? These guys could certainly benefit from a mixing board, but again, that’s a venue-reliant thing and I can’t knock them for it.
Overall I was impressed with what I saw last night. The next step for these guys is to get on the bills at more popular venues to help spread their name and solidify their stage presence. So for any bands looking for another act to add to their show – Give Thieves in Remand a shot at it.
