Windsor’s newest themed restaurant has opened its doors on Ottawa Street.
MamO Burger Bar, which was created to feature “fun burger creations” with local ingredients, opened Tuesday night in the former Sweet T’s Soul Cookin’ / Smoke and Spice location on Ottawa Street.
“We’ve been throwin’ around this idea for a burger joint for about two years now, and we’ve decided to do it in style,” the owners announced back in August.
First up, in the appetizers category, the restaurant features a special twist on usual restaurant nacho dishes. Totchos (pictured below) are tater tots (instead of nachos) loaded with chili, pulled pork, cheddar, lime sour cream, pickled jalepenos and cooled off with a topping of pico de gallo.
Other starters include fried pickles, braised short rib racos, onion rings, smoked chicken wings and more.
Keeping with the feeling good food theme, the restaurant makes tall and creamy milkshakes: creamsicle, salty caramel (pictured), vanilla bean and chocolate truffle. Root beer and Faygo Grape floats are on the menu too.
In the burger department, MamO Burger has a list of 10 incredible “signature burgers”.
The burgers start from simple (Old School featuring cheese, lettuce, pickles and MamO sauce), to flavourful (The Big Popper with fried goat cheese, roasted jalepenos, bacon), to out of this world (White Trash Burger with bologna, chili, onions, mustard and Lay’s Potato Chips).
MamO Burger says the White Trash burger is great for hangovers.
Burgers are two patties thick, often with cheese in between, featuring local beef — raised and butchered by Shawn Morris Farms in Comber and sold to the restaurant by The Butcher of Kingsville.
If you’re adventurous and want to create something special, MamO Burger Bar has a DIY burger option.
First you can pick your patty (beef, lamb, veggie, grilled chicken breast, turkey).
Then cheese it up (American, jack, Swiss, blue cheese spread, feta, Queso Fesco, white cheddar, mozzerella).
Add in some toppings (lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions).
Some premium toppings (carmelized onions, arugula, Lay’s Potato chips, roasted jalapenos, pickled jalapenos, fried eggs, pico de gallo, country slaw, pickled red onions).
Or luxury toppings (pulled pork, all beef chili, fried salami, short ribs, proscuitto, bacon jam, smoked portobello, house bacon, mac & cheese, fried goat cheese, smoked bologna, crispy onion rings).
And go crazy with sauces and condiments (MamO sauce, chipotle mayo, buttermilk ranch, basil mayo, Georgia’s brown sugar BBQ sauce, roasted garlic mayo, horseradish mayo)
The name MamO comes from the owners’ first restaurant, MamO Bistro, on Wyandotte in Riverside.
MamO Burger Bar is now open at 1515 Ottawa Street. Hours of operation are Tuesday to Saturday from 5pm to 10pm and Sunday from noon until 8pm.
