Deb’s Diner is a small, unassuming diner tucked in with other businesses along Ottawa Street.
However, the diner’s owner and chef, Deb Smith, makes a visit to her diner a memorable experience – and not just because of the excellent food. Deb is a performer at heart and is entertaining and humorous as she takes guests’ orders and serves up platters of freshly made food. Deb is known for making amazing omelettes, a skill she learned while an apprentice at the Fairmont Algonquin Resort in New Brunswick.
“Everything we make, we make here,” Deb said. “We make our own potato chips.”
Deb’s chips are served with sandwiches or you can also stop in to pick up a bag for a quick snack.
The diner is open for breakfast (served all day) and lunch. The breakfast menu includes omelettes, pancakes, French toast, steak and eggs, Deb’s breakfast sandwich, and Deb’s Diner Deluxe Breakfast (two large eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, homefries, and toast).
For lunch there are a variety of sandwiches, such as egg salad, BLT, grilled cheese, corned beef, and more. There are also daily specials. Some of Deb’s most recent specials have included chicken quesadillas, pulled pork sandwiches, chili, sloppy joes, and roasted chicken quarters with mashed potatoes and carrots. Some of Deb’s recent soups of the day include creamy mushroom, clam chowder, split pea, and potato bacon. Specials are usually posted on Deb’s Diner’s Facebook page.
Upcoming events at the diner include a pancake breakfast and raffle fundraiser for Autism Ontario on March 30th from 8am – 3pm. Tickets can be purchased at Deb’s Diner.
Deb also supports local artists by showcasing paintings in her diner, which are also for sale.
Deb’s Diner is located at 1430 Ottawa Street and can be contacted by calling 519-252-3327. They are open Tuesdays from 9am – 2pm, and Wednesday – Sunday from 8am – 3pm. You can visit their webpage for more information.
