For the second time in a day, the planned implosion of the former GM Transmission Plant’s smokestack did not go as expected.
The implosion set for 2pm resulted in only a large boom and a small plume of white smoke or dust, visible near the base of the tower.
The implosion was rescheduled for 6pm, residents gathered to watch again, but the resulting explosion failed to take the tower down. Again it produced smoke at the base, but this time smoke was seen coming from the top of the stack.
There’s no word yet on timing for another attempt.
