37 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Thursday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 37 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Wednesday, bringing the local total to 13,928.
Today’s New Cases
Cases increased from 13,891 on Wednesday March 31st to 13,928 on Thursday April 1st and 337 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.
The Health Unit says 2 cases are outbreak related, 17 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 2 cases are community acquired, and 13 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.
The Health Unit says 79 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (9 more today).
Vaccinations
Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today:
- 81,335 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+2,720 since yesterday)
- 69,030 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (+2,694 since yesterday)
- 12,305 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+26 since yesterday)
- A total of 93,640 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+2,746 since yesterday)

There are two vaccination programs for different age groups at the moment:
- People 70 years of age and older
- Those aged 70 or older can book using the Health Unit’s system.

- People aged 60 or older (AstraZeneca pharmacy pilot)
- Vaccines are now in limited supply at participating pharmacies in Windsor-Essex.

Resolved Cases
The Health Unit lists 13,188 total resolved cases.
That’s an increase of 29 resolved cases today.
Deaths
There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 today and the local death toll stands at 403.
Hospitalizations
The Health Unit lists 14 hospitalizations today: 10 people in acute care, and 4 people in the ICU with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.

Health Unit Updates
The Health Unit says they will not hold live briefings on YouTube on Friday or Monday due to Easter-related holidays and briefings will resume Tuesday. They say the next daily COVID-19 statistics update will take place Saturday, followed by Tuesday.
