The fastest sport on skates is back for its 2014 season and local athletes have the chance to participate.
Red Bull Crashed Ice is once again on a quest to find Canada’s most brazen winter athletes; registration is now open for the local qualifying event that will be held at the WFCU Centre on February 12th.
Fearless male and female athletes can register online at redbullcrashedice.com until January 26th. Only the quickest and most agile skaters will advance to the international ice cross downhill season finale against the iconic backdrop of Quebec City, QC on March 22nd.
Once registration closes, a lottery will randomly select 200 men and 20 women from Windsor-Essex to participate in a qualifying event at the WFCU Centre, which will consist of speed trials on traditional ice-hockey surfaces. Athletes will skate two at a time on identical obstacle courses in pursuit of the fastest course completion time. Only the top 100 male and 24 female Qualifier participants with the top overall skate scores will earn a spot to battle to the bottom of the massive ice course in Quebec City’s season finale race.
