Those looking to head downtown to skate over the Christmas holidays at the popular Charles Clark Square will be disappointed, as there is no ice in place.
The City has opted to try a new synthetic ice surface instead of the traditional real ice and it will not be installed until the week of January 13th, 2014.
“Unfortunately, for this season, we’ll miss the Christmas holiday skating that’s always so popular at the Square,” said Facilities Executive Director John Miceli. “But once it’s in place, the skating season will last a lot longer, and for years to come.”
On December 2nd, Windsor City Council approved the purchase and installation of the 70’ X 90’ synthetic surface, supplied by Synthetic Ice Solutions of Canada.
Once installed, the city says that the synthetic ice will extend outdoor skating into the Spring of 2014.
