This weekend, leading up to Remembrance Day, the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society will be honouring veterans and active service men and women by offering them 50% off their adoption fee of any animal.
The Society says that simply by being themselves, dogs have been found to reduce PTSD among soldiers. And multiple studies indicate that pets offer powerful stress relief, lowering not only blood pressure but also harmful stress hormones like cortisol which is associated with depression and anxiety, which is beneficial for veterans and of course non-veterans as well.
This Saturday and Sunday only, adopters who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces will have their adoption fees reduced by 50%. All adoptions will still be subject to a $30 administration fee, and proof of military service must be provided. The Adoption Centre will be open 11am to 6pm Saturday and Sunday for adoptions.
Adoptable animals may also be viewed online 24 hours a day online here.
