A head on collision in heavy rain on Highway 3 in the HG Parkway area sent five people to hospital, one with serious injuries.

Paramedics, OPP and firefighters rushed to the area of the road in front of St. Clair College around 4pm.

A black VW Jetta and a white Chrysler Impala had collided and one person was trapped.

Firefighters used the jaws of life to remove the trapped driver of the Impala. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Four occupants of the Jetta were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police and emergency crews worked quickly to reopen the road. It opened to traffic around 5:15.
