For the past two years now, a local business has been giving back to the community and awarding the gift of hearing.

Inspired by a homily at her church, Lisa Macari, Doctor of Audiology, and her team at the Hearing Wellness Centre have chosen to sponsor a contest during the Christmas season to share the gift of hearing with a deserving person within the community.

People were invited to submit a story about someone in their lives who was in need of assistance with their hearing loss. Lisa and her staff reviewed all the stories and chose the winners.

“We have all been so blessed in our lives, in our families and in our careers,” says Lisa. “We truly wanted to share our blessings and help someone in our community. We are happy to announce that Mrs. Leddy and Mr. Little are the winners in this year’s Gift it Forward contest.”

Each winner will receive a hearing aid package, including assessment, fitting, hearing aids and three years of post-fitting service.

“We would really like to thank everyone for their submissions. There are so many wonderful people in this community, my staff and I are pleased to be able to share some of our blessings this Christmas,” said Lisa. “We received nearly 20 entries, and it was very difficult to choose a winner – there were so many amazing stories. Hearing loss can have such a profound impact on people’s lives. I have seen first-hand – within my own family – just how much of a struggle daily life can become when a person has hearing loss.”

“We are so happy to be able to present both Mrs. Leddy and Mr. Little with hearing aid packages. Their stories truly touched our hearts. Initially we had planned a single winner, but it was just too hard to choose,” confessed Lisa, “so we decided to help two people enjoy the gift of better hearing. We are very grateful to our generous hearing aid supplier for helping make this gift possible.”

Lisa and her team hope to “Share the Blessing of Christmas” for many years to come.

The Hearing Wellness Centre is located at 13278 Tecumseh Road East in the Tecumseh Medical Centre.
