In remembrance of Karl Straky’s wife, Kathleen, he and his family made a donation to Windsor Regional Hospital for a waiting lounge to improve patient satisfaction.
A brief dedication ceremony was held this morning at the Ouellette Campus and the lounge was named the Kathleen Straky Pulmonary Function Lab Waiting Lounge.
As the family looked back on Kathleen’s final journey, 230 days were spent in the hospital being taken care of many medical professionals. It was the family’s wish to give back.
Dr. E. Malus, one of Kathleen’s physicians, said it is nice to see a family whose committed to giving back to the hospital.
The waiting lounge has been designed with new furnishings, a television and wall prints depicting Kathleen’s garden.
“To have a reminder of her garden here, its magical for us. It’s wonderful for the whole team who took care of her,” said Malus.
Straky said his family wanted to give back because of the care and support Kathleen received from the staff.
Along with funding the waiting lounge, the family has also funded a blanket warmer for the Cath Lab at Windsor Regional Hospital.
Straky and his family are planning to fund another donation in the near future.
