Investigators are probing a fire on Ottawa Street that sent one person to hospital, Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters rushed to the area of Ottawa and Marentette around 1:45pm after witnesses saw smoke billowing out of a second storey apartment above an electronics store.

Crews arrived to the back alley behind the apartment building and found heavy smoke coming from windows and the roof.

Firefighters spent several minutes in two apartment units fighting the fire and ensuring it did not spread.

One person, a resident, was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.

The fire was out just after 3pm.

Damage is extensive.

This is the second fire on Ottawa Street in two days.

Alibi’s Family Restaurant was destroyed early Saturday morning by fire.
