Cycling Tour To Take Riders Down County Roads

The Essex Region Conservation Authority is hosting the third annual Canada South Coast Bike Tour on Saturday, September 27th.

“The popularity of cycling both for recreation and as a form transportation continues to grow both in our community and around the world,” explains Danielle Breault Stuebing, ERCA’s Director of Community Outreach Services. “As well, cycle-tourism is one of the fastest growing segments of the tourism sector and guests travel from around the globe explore our beautiful region on two wheels. We are delighted to offer this organized ride for cyclists of all ages and abilities.”

The Canada South Coast Bike Tour includes five cycling routes across the region, and will include a 15 kilometre family ride, a 32 kilometre intermediate ride and a 70 kilometre route along the safe Chrysler Canada Greenway trail.

The 15km event begins and ends at Schwab Farm Community Entrance on the Arner Towline. The 32 kilometre intermediate ride will begin and end at the Harrow Community Entrance, and the 70 kilometre route will be based from the Caesars Windsor Community Entrance on Country Route 8, just west of Walker Road.

The 110 kilometre advanced road ride will begin and end at the Heritage Park Alliance Church located at 2501 Sixth Concession in Windsor and travel along beautiful urban and rural roads. As well, there is a 58 kilometre road route which will begin and end at Holiday Beach Conservation Area. Rest stops with water, snacks and washrooms will be available approximately every 20 kilometres along this route. All routes will lead to the Kingsville Train Station Community Entrance/Mettawas Station Restaurant for lunch, which is included in the registration fee.

Costs range from $25 to $35 a participant, with a family maximum of $75. There is no charge for children in bike trailers. All funds raised will be used to help construct the Essex-Amherstburg Greenway, another heart-healthy trail for the Essex Region.

“This is the only organized multi-level bike ride in our region and it has typically attracted participants from the United States, Toronto and a number of other locations outside of our region,” Breault Stuebing adds. “We have welcomed guests ranging in age from 9 months to 90 years, on tricycles, in bike trailers and on tandem and recumbent bikes. This truly is an event for everyone!”
