Parking garage currently under construction on the UWindsor campus

Parking rates at the University of Windsor are set to incease July 1st, pending Board of Governor approval on Tuesday.

The University has just completed a comprehensive review of the current parking program on campus. The review included an inventory of all parking spaces, parking patterns, needs’ assessment of faculty, staff and students, and a review of the pricing model.

The University also announced earlier this year that several surface parking lots will be closed to enhance safety of pedestrian movement, and for the creation of green spaces.

The University says that as well, all surface parking lots will have their name changed to better reflect their location, thus to assist in way-finding on campus.

The rate increase that is proposed will have all parking lots at campus set at the same price except for one parking lot considered to be remotely located that will have a reduced rate.

The proposed new rate for Faculty and Staff lots is $601.80. The current rate is between $547.08 and $567.16. One remote Lot, located under the Ambassador Bridge, will have a rate of $489.26. The current rate is $444.96.

The proposed new rate for Students for an eight month pass is $287.80, the current rate is $274.16. For a 12 month pass the proposed rate is $344.91. The current rate is $328.32.

A new permit for students will also be offered this year in the Parking Garage as an eight month parking permit that will guarantee a student a space in the garage. This rate has been set at $401.20.

The university states that the proposed rates for faculty, staff and students, effective July 1, 2013, continue to be below the median rate for parking at other Ontario universities.
