Bliss and Lappan in Windsor as seen from Google Maps

Windsor Police are investigating an attempted purse snatching that took place around 5:30pm Sunday afternoon.

Police say that a 39-year-old female victim had been to the dollar store at Cabana near Walker Road and was walking home.

She was in the area of Bliss and Lappan Street texting on her phone. She was not paying attention but said she saw a male walking the other way.

A few moments later she was shoved from behind and felt someone grabbing at her purse. She tightened her grip so the suspect attempted to grab the dollarama bag which fell to the ground, the contents spilling out. She dropped her phone also which broke. The male suspect then fled the scene.

The victim described the suspect as being in his early 20’s, with light facial hair, a medium build, about 5’10”. He was wearing jogging pants and a gray zip up hoodie. The victim was not injured in the incident.

Police are asking the public if they saw anything around this time in the area of Lappan and Bliss to call detectives at 519-255-6799 Ext 4830 or call Crime Stoppers.

Staff Sergeant Steve Bodri stressed that everyone needs to be aware of their surroundings, and texting not only affects your driving but distracts you even while walking.
