Tonight at Windsor City Council, Can-Am Tourism Development lead by two local businessmen Peter Lui and Al Teshuba will ask for council’s input and seek their favorable consent to submit an application to the Federal Economic Development Agency to receive a grant of approximately $350,000 to create an Asian/International District/BIA in the City of Windsor. The proposed district would be along Wyandotte Street West between California (near the University) and Crawford.
Can-Am Tourism Development has asked the Windsor-Essex Economic Development Commission to take the lead on this initiative, as it has to be submitted by an organization with a track record, and this fits with many of the Development Commission’s goals to enhance the city.
The $350,000 will be used over 18 months to create and support this new Business Improvement Area. The funding will be used to create a logo for the district, pole banners and signs, an advertising campaign, establish a BIA office and to create two gates to mark each end of he BIA. The city has also already committed $60,000 for the gates.
The group has the signatures of support of over 90 local business owners and residents who want to see this more forward.
