Roxanne Jackson‘s exhibition entitled “Monster” was received at Artcite Incorporated Friday evening.
The art in the form of ceramic sculptures explores the dualities within us. Crucial contrasts of human nature such as darkness, lightness, vulnerability and strength are all manifest in her artwork. This is derived from the contrast between the human and the inhuman.
The human and the animal it evolved from.
Another concept in her work is the apparent link between humans and animals. This is illustrated using contrasts such as instinct and reason which represent the primal and refined natures that are present within each of us. It ultimately comes back to our conscious and subconscious. There is more to the art than what is on the surface. Each piece holds a metaphysical meaning under its beautiful exterior.
The show runs until August 6 at Artcite Incorporated on University Avenue.
