St. Clair College is holding an open house on Saturday Nov. 20 at the MediaPlex at 275 Victoria Ave. The newly renovated school opened in September and is one of only three of its kind in the world.
“We’re hoping potential students looking to get into journalism will come and take a look at our facilities and get really excited about the possibility of coming to study with us,” said Veronique Mandal, program coordinator. “We’re also hoping to see parents and educators, perhaps high school teachers who may want to come see what we do here.
Prospective students will have an opportunity to see current students in action working in the newsroom. Students will get a clear idea of what working in a real news room environment is all about.
There will also be tours of the radio studio, the television studios, the editing suites and the entire facility.
The convergent journalism program gives students a solid background and trains them to work in radio, television or print newsrooms. Many go on to work for magazines, on-line news organizations and new media.
“This gives prospects an opportunity to get a really good idea of what life is going to be like when they leave us and when they go into newsrooms,” said Mandal. “I think it makes students far more prepared.”
The MediaPlex tour is Saturday Nov. 20 from 10a.m. till 2 p.m.
