The Crosstown Players are gearing up for their fall season with open auditions. The local theatre crew, which stages plays at MacKenzie Hall, will present a production of “Bobby Orr Knees” on November 26th, 27th and December 1st.

The Crosstown Players are teaming up with the AIDS Committee of Windsor for this original comedy by James Mays, directed by Joey Ouellette. From the city’s website:

Gregg Armstrong, a.k.a. “Miss Mabel Leaf” is a female impersonator who shares a balcony with retired NHL legend Doug Adams. Doug doesn’t care much for his neighbour’s flamboyant lifestyle but they challenge each other with hockey and movie trivia. When Gregg’s ex calls to say he is HIV positive, a terrified Gregg intends to commit suicide by throwing himself off the balcony. Doug must decide if he cares enough to talk his neighbour down and is forced to examine his own secretive lifestyle and choose what secrets he is willing to reveal.

There are three roles that need to be cast. The two main characters, Gregg Armstrong and Doug Adams, and a third known only as “Shadow”. Here are the specs:

Doug Adams—bitter, reclusive 40-something dumb jock, former NHL legend who can no longer play hockey because of bad knees. He uses a cane and a walker to get around.

Gregg Armstrong—the headline act at Casino Windsor, this female impersonator, AKA Miss Mable Leaf, is out and proud, much to the annoyance of his neighbour, Doug.

Shadow—male or female — a darkly brooding bisexual (possibly Goth?) teen in Grade 12 who lives in the building with divorced dad. Shadow does odd jobs for neighbours and is friends with both Doug and Gregg.

Open auditions will be held Wednesday, September 8 at 7 pm, at Mackenzie Hall (3277 Sandwich Street). It is not necessary to have anything prepared, and these are paying gigs (depending on ticket sales). For more information call  James Mays at  519-254-6853.
