How to Spend a FUN & FESTIVE FAMILY DAY

By: Erin Kane, December 2022

If someone were to describe our family some may say fast paced. If you were to ask me to describe our weekends, I would use the word jammed packed.  We joined forces with Windsor Essex Tourism and peppered in some super fun activities after a fun filled day of swim meets and baseball practice! If you are looking for some fun places to hit up over the holidays, check this out!

OVEN 360

This place is a stones throw away from our house, the pizza is delicious and quick, just the way we like it when the kids are hungry and we are on our way home from a busy day. The oven stone pizza is a family favourite and the kids can get their own personalized pizza to please all the different palettes we have going on. Whether you like simple or spicy this is a great spot to head to for a family lunch or dinner night!

ADVENTURE BAY FAMILY WATER PARK

Our kids have been waiting so long to go to Adventure Bay Family Water Park. My girls swim there 6 days a week so my littles are always looking into the massive water park windows. When it re-opened the kids were ecstatic. The water slides, interactive water play, the wave pool and the lazy river were such a hit. I personally like this water park because it has something for all of my children’s ages and interests (11, 8, 4 and 22 months). It really was a great experience for us all. It’s a little vacation away from home minus the long drive.

URBAN ART MARKET

After a busy afternoon of swimming we snuck in some holiday shopping at Urban Art Market located in Walkerville. This little store has so many hand-crafted items from talented local artists in our area. We picked up some Teacher gifts as well as some hand-crafted initial key changes for the girls. Shopping local is something I try to do as much as possible, this store is a must if you are looking for different yet personal.

COOKIE BAR

Cookie Bar is in a prime location for post swim snack stops. We were able to jump into the shop for some delicious handcrafted cookies by a local couple who started their journey from their own kitchen over the pandemics and now are serving up cookies and craft beer in a cute little spot on Pelissier.

THE BULL AND BARREL URBAN SALOON

I will admit we do not often go to dinner as a family of six. Bringing my little guy anywhere that confines him can be a bit of a challenge and doesn’t always lead to an enjoyable dinner experience. Having said that we did it anyway, the experience at Bull and Barrel was fantastic! We were in our own little area, were able to play pool with the older girls and the littles were able to colour, read books and walk around without the worry of disrupting other guests. The food and drinks were delicious and the portion sizes left us with so many left overs. Mom and Dad were even able to enjoy an adult beverage while the kids dove into their baked cookie dough and warmed up chocolate chip cookies desert.

BRIGHT LIGHTS WINDSOR

We LOVE this time of year. Bright Lights, local vendors, getting all layered up to walk around and appreciate a beautiful part of our city all lit up. The kids loved grabbing some What’s Poppin’ popcorn (they all got to choose their own flavour) shopping around at the variety of shops and walking though the beautiful paths of lights. It is so nice to see people out enjoying each others company and creating memories together. If you are looking for a night out hit up Bright Lights Windsor, it really is a fun experience for all.
