Hello time traveller!!

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 93 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Thursday, bringing the local total to 14,602.

New Cases

Cases increased from 14,509 on Wednesday April 14th to 14,602 on Thursday April 15th and 452 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 1 case is outbreak-related, 36 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 28 cases are community acquired, 1 case is travel-related to Michigan, and the acquisition sources of 27 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.

The Health Unit says 366 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (an increase of 21 identified since yesterday).

Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health says the increase in cases is a strong reminder that we could be heading in the wrong direction but that Windsor-Essex still has an opportunity to emerge from the stay at home order in a better position than the rest of the province.

“I still believe that we can avoid a major surge of cases in Windsor Essex,” he said, indicating that it is “absolutely critical” to follow the public health measures including physical distancing and wearing a mask.

“With the ongoing vaccine rollout we are doing our best to protect residents,” he said. “But just the vaccines will not prevent the transmission of COVID-19. We need to stick to our public health precautions until our coverage rate is high enough, and our transmission level is low enough.”

“Overall, our actions define how quickly the virus spreads in our community,” he said. “We have an opportunity to come out stronger when the stay at home order is lifted.”
